Fermentation Lab – Shopify Store

Building a premium e-commerce experience for one of the UAE’s most exciting specialty coffee roasteries — where science meets passion, and every detail is brewed to perfection.

The Challenge

Fermentation Lab is a UAE-born specialty coffee roastery known for its innovative fermentation techniques and exceptional single-origin coffees. With a growing community of 17K+ followers on Instagram and an expanding product line — from espresso and filter roasts to instant coffee, drip bags, capsules, and branded tumblers — they needed an online store that matched the precision and quality of their craft. The existing setup wasn’t doing the brand justice. It lacked the visual sophistication, seamless navigation, and bilingual functionality needed to serve their diverse customer base across the Emirates and beyond. Fermentation Lab needed a Shopify store that felt as premium as the coffee inside every bag.

Our Approach

We approached this project the way Fermentation Lab approaches their coffee — methodically, with obsessive attention to detail and zero shortcuts.

 

Store Design & Brand Experience:

We designed a Shopify store that reflects the brand’s identity: scientific precision meets artisan craft. The visual language leans into dark, rich tones paired with clean typography — letting the product photography and tasting notes take center stage. Every product page was structured to showcase the coffee’s origin, fermentation method, elevation, quality score, and flavor profile in a way that educates and converts. We built the browsing experience around how specialty coffee lovers actually shop — by brew method (espresso, filter, premium) and by format (whole bean, drip bags, capsules, instant).

Bilingual Arabic & English Experience:

Serving both Arabic and English-speaking customers across the UAE was non-negotiable. We implemented full bilingual support with proper RTL layout for Arabic, ensuring the store feels native in both languages — not like a translation afterthought. Language switching is seamless, and every piece of content, from navigation to product descriptions to the checkout flow, works flawlessly in both directions.

Conversion-Focused Features:

Beyond the design, we built several features to drive engagement and repeat purchases. A dynamic roast calendar on the homepage displays the current and next roast dates, creating urgency and freshness cues. We implemented a Loyalty Lab program to reward returning customers and encourage higher order values. Collection pages were organized with tabbed navigation (Espresso / Filter / Premium) for quick browsing, and each product card highlights tasting notes with visual icons — making it effortless for customers to find their perfect cup.

Technical Foundation:

The store was built with performance and scalability in mind. Fast load times, mobile-first responsive design, and optimized product imagery ensure a smooth experience on any device. We also set up the infrastructure for free shipping thresholds (orders above 350 AED within UAE), integrated WhatsApp for customer support, and structured the store to support future expansion — including bulk orders and potential international shipping.

The Outcome

The result is a Shopify store that truly represents the Fermentation Lab brand — premium, precise, and built for coffee lovers who care about every detail.
